The Fisher men's hockey team hit the ice on January 23 and outskated the University of Rochester Yellowjackets in the First Annual Courage Cup.
The Cardinals took on and beat the Yellowjackets 8-4 at Genesee Valley Ice Arena in an out of conference game.
All profits from the game will benefit the children of Camp Good Days. More than $400 was raised through donations from students of both schools.
The Courage Cup was inspired by the Courage Bowl, which also benefits Camp Good Days, played between the University of Rochester and St. John Fisher football teams every fall.
Camp Good Days had a table setup near the entrance where game attendees could learn about the camp and many people donated money.
Laura Osborn, a counselor at Camp Good Days was there to spread information about the camp and to collect donations. "This is a great event and I am very excited to be a part of it," she said.
The Teddi Committee from Fisher was also on the scene with its own fund raiser. Teddi members walked through the crowd during the first intermission to collect spare change.
Teddi's 'chuck-a-puck' operation, which took place between the second and third periods, raised almost $200. More than 92 pucks were thrown onto the ice, each representing a donation.
The game played out in front of a crowd jam-packed with students from both schools. The first period started quickly with the two teams exchanging several body checks that had the crowd exited.
An early shot by senior Joe Meyer was saved by Rochester goalie Ryan Sigurdson. The first of many penalties was taken by sophomore Mike Pasley for cross checking at seven minutes and 28 seconds into the first period.
The Cardinals were able to kill the penalty but Rochester would soon score making it 1-0 halfway through the first. Fisher penalties continued and at one point, Rochester had a five-on-three advantage. Fisher senior goalie David Hill made several saves to keep the score 1-0 in the first.
"We are not playing to our full potential, we need to find a system," said sophomore Phil Martello.
