The Cardinals started to pick up their play in the second period. The hard hitting continued, and so did the scoring from both teams.
During that penalty packed period, the Cardinals went on a 4-0 scoring run with senior Bryan Zeller scoring the first goal of the game for Fisher.
At the end of the second period a skirmish gave Rochester a man advantage with an interference penalty taken by freshman A.J. VanScott.
The score went from 4-1 to 5-2 in less than a minute, and the period concluded with the Cardinals up 5-3.
Senior Kevin Poppleton said between periods that the team needed to "stop with the penalties and possess the puck better," in the final period.
Less than a minute into the third period Meyer scored a shorthanded goal putting Fisher up 6-3.
More horseplay followed to give Fisher a power play opportunity which they capitalized on with senior Anthony Dominic making the score 7-3.
Then the game became forceful, both sides becoming very physical with each other. The crowd cheered on the rough play and aggressiveness.
Rochester defensemen Josh Anderson scored midway through the third. The Cardinals sealed the deal with more saves from Hill and an empty-net goal by senior Nick Donofrio.
After a hard-hitting and emotional game, the Cardinals won the inaugural Courage Cup game and were presented with the Courage Cup trophy.
"The team played great. I believe we had four power play goals which were good. I'm looking forward to keeping up the winning," said junior Mike Mooney.
"It was a good effort all around." Zeller said. "We definitely picked up the momentum between the first and second."
Fisher head coach Mike Sahs thought the team played well, but Rochester head coach Todd Gruttadauria said, "I thought it was three different games in one."
Both coaches shared a common thought about the game, they both liked the Courage Cup idea.
"It is a great way to raise money and we are going to do this every year from now on." Gruttadauria said.
The Fisher men's hockey team went on to lose 5-4 to St. Bonaventure on Sunday afternoon. The team has three games in a row next Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The lone home game will be Friday vs. R.I.T. at Thomas Creek Ice Arena at 8:30 p.m.
