As head of the event and Director of Activities for Student Government, junior Erika Cary explained that this year VIP members arrived earlier than the general admission for hor dourves, pictures, priority seating and complementary gifts.
The main part of this event consisted of a fashion show and featured L'Avant Garbe clothing modeled by Fisher students.
After the fashion show guests took turns taking pictures on the red carpet, having mocktails and enjoying an after-party filled with music and dancing.
The proceeds of this event are split between Relay for Life and Teddi Dance for Love, which are two major fundraising events held on campus.
"For Relay's part we donate all of it to the American Cancer Society and from there they distribute the money for research, education, helping to pay for medical bills of patients who cannot afford it, etc," said Relay for Life Chair Amy Sansone.
The clubs were happy with the $3,000 that was raised at this year's event. The money will be split evenly between the two clubs.
New to the Winter Gala this year was student Justin Worboys who participated as a model in the fashion show. As a participant in this event Justin "realized that sometimes in order to have a great time you just need to step out of your comfort zone and try something new. You should put yourself out there and take a chance, especially when it's for a good cause."
Tara Ashraf, another student and model at the event, says she decided to participate as "it was a great way to meet people I would not have ordinarily and being a member of Teddi the connection is a little close to home."
Both Ashraf and Worboys felt that guests in attendance were extremely happy with the outcome and enjoyed getting dressed up.
"Personally, I couldn't be happier with the way the event went," Cary said.
The committee had planned the event since Sept. and was proud of all the effort and hard work put into it.
"Everyone brought something new and different to the table, but yet they all shared the same passion that really made it come to a full circle, and for that I can't thank them enough," Cary said.
Organizers are thankful this event presented the opportunity to bring many organizations together for a great cause and believe that with the positive feedback from Fisher students, the next Winter Gala is already something to look forward to.
