Remember Jdimytai Damour? He was a Wal-Mart employee working in Long Island, New York. On Nov. 28, 2008, Damour was killed on the job. How did Damour die? Damour was attempting to open the front doors for Black Friday shoppers when the customers did it for him. They ripped the door off the hinges and trampled Damour to death. When the police showed up, shoppers continued to pour past them, knocking down a pregnant woman in the process.
It truly sickens me what Black Friday can do to normal people. People wake up early in the morning, in order to make sure they are first in line at the local Best Buy, Target, etc. Since stores usually open at 5 a.m., most shoppers set their alarms for 3 a.m. Then, it's a race to see who can stand in front of a department store for the longest period of time. Intelligence reigns supreme on Black Friday.
While murder is not an annual problem, Black Friday shoppers change form from rational human beings to the infected zombies in I Am Legend. They wait in lines wrapped halfway around the perimeter of the store while their children cry, and most frustrated customers push and whine their way to the front.
Black Friday is the poster-boy for greed. With the need to save some money, shoppers will kick, punch, scratch, and fight to get those discounts. Somehow, Black Friday turns humans into wildlife.
The intriguing part about Black Friday is that the discounts really aren't that great. Most DVDs, video games, and other small-ticket items have little to no discount. You might find a refrigerator on sale or the limited edition version of Paul Blart: Mall Cop; however, don't expect anything worth your money to be on sale.
Black Friday is no longer a day for sales. In fact, big business has put their personal touch on the "holiday." Attention shoppers: Black Friday is just a scam to get you into the store. While there may be some discounts on expensive items, there is always a method to corporate madness. Companies know that if they can coerce large groups of irrational shoppers into their store, they will be forced to spend their money.
Black Friday emphasizes everything that is wrong with our country. It promotes greed and stupidity, drains humanity from those foolish shoppers, and attempts to fool them with "great discounts." If you decide to join this group of fools this season, remember Jdimytai Damour. No sale is worth a human life.
