Adam Wright was "the most loyal person I've ever met," junior Michael Everett said about the 20 -year-old Fisher student.
Sophomore Adam Wright passed away on Monday, July 6 at Strong Memorial Hospital following a car accident on Sunday, July 5. A Business and Sports Management dual major, Adam was a good football player, an incredible soccer player, a loving father, and an amazing friend. Junior Brandon Michaels remembers him with a smile, saying, "He was very outgoing. He was always nice to everyone."
Wright had gone to Fisher for his first semester as a freshman, and then transferred to Iona College for a semester because of a football scholarship. Following that semester, he returned to Fisher for another year. He had planned on being a part of Fisher's football team when school returned to session for the 2009-2010 year. Sports had been one of Wright's most prevalent loves, and his friends remember his athleticism well.
But exceeding his love of sports, Wright showed a compassion for his friends, family and even strangers that went above and beyond. Close friend and sophomore Ethan Lovell remembers best the weekends they spent at popular restaurant and bar Tully's, watching football and hanging out with each other. He regards these weekends as some of his favorite memories with Wright. Michaels and Everett recall Wright caring so much as to call weekly to ask about their personal lives and check up on them. "He was selfless," Everett said remembering his friend.
Lovell added that, "If he was your friend, he would do anything for you and never expect anything in return."
Wright loved to know what was going on in his friends' personal lives, and always cared enough to ask, even when he was busy with schoolwork and sports.
Everett, Michaels and Lovell recall a story that was told at his funeral procession about Wright picking up a homeless man on the street and bringing him to his church to be fed and clothed. The story illuminates Wright's compassion and his deep desire to help others. It is no wonder that his friends speak of him in such loving, caring terms.
Most importantly, though, Lovell wanted the Fisher community to recognize that anything is possible.
"If you put your mind to it, you can do it. He had a lot of determination. If he wanted to do something, he would do it," Lovell said.
Maybe the most incredible thing about Wright was that between juggling his love of sports, his dedication to his schoolwork, and his relationships with his friends, he had a young son to raise as well. His friends recall that the change between Wright being an ordinary young man to becoming a father really matured him and made him the man that people remember now.
He is survived by his parents, Mark Wright and Laurie Wright-Bunce, his brother Michael, his sister Danielle and his young son, James, who will someday grow up to know just how incredible a father he had and how proud of that father he should be. Wright was a caring friend, a loving, wonderful father and family member, a dedicated athlete and a hardworking student who will be greatly missed by his son, his family, and his friends alike.
