The St. John Fisher men's lacrosse team has improved to 13-2 overall and 5-2 in the Empire 8 Conference with head coach John Johnson getting his 400th overall win.

The Cardinals hosted the Alfred Saxons at Growney Stadium on Saturday and the start of the game didn't look too promising for Fisher.

Alfred's Justin Gill scored with 4:08 left in the first quarter to give the Saxons a 2-1 lead, but Fisher went on the attack as it scored the next seven goals and gave itself an 8-2 lead going into halftime.

The Saxons came out of the locker room scoring two goals to Fisher's one, reducing the lead to 9-4, but the Cardinals scored seven more goals to seal the victory.

The Cardinals were coming off a historic win against East Avenue rival Nazareth College, which marked the first win over the Golden Flyers in school history.

"It was one of the best experiences on the lacrosse field I've ever had grown up," junior Dave Malone said. "I've always watched Nazareth play lacrosse so it was one of the best things for me and for the school."

"It was one of the greatest feelings I've had playing lacrosse," senior Dominic "Dutchie" Venuti said. "I've always wanted to beat them and they're one of our biggest rivals along with RIT. It's just a huge step for our program and it really sets the bar high for the guys that are coming into the program in the next few years."

The Cardinals have been on fire, winning their last five games. Sitting high on their pedestal, though, the Cardinals have to make sure that they don't get too comfortable, or they could get themselves into some trouble.

"We just have to realize that playing teams like Nazareth and Ithaca, we're usually the underdogs in these games," Malone said. "When we win these games as the underdog its good for our team. It helps us stay focused and we have to remember to never underestimate our opponents."

"We're not arrogant players," Venuti said. "We just go out and play hard and show it on the field. We know our capabilities and we know our potential and I don't think it will be a problem. We just need to stay focused."
