When I first heard about Veneto, I was told "it's a pizza place on East Ave." While this is true, I was surprised when I actually got to Veneto.

I had imagined it would be like an average pizza place - tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese, greasy pepperonis and some chicken wings. Veneto, however, is not by any means what one imagines when they think "pizza place."

I quickly realized this as soon as I walked into the restaurant, which is actually sit-down style. It is a very open setting, even though it is small. The tall ceiling allows for a large echo to develop from the chatter of the diners, which makes the room seem even bigger than it is.

And while there aren't many tables, it doesn't feel empty at all in the restaurant. Most of the tables were filled in Veneto, and a quick scan revealed that the restaurant caters to all age groups.

My favorite part of the restaurant though is that you can watch the chefs working on your meal in the kitchen from your table.

Speaking of your meal - at Veneto, they serve personal 11-inch pizzas, which stick to Italian tradition with some American flare.

The Margherita pizza is the most basic and least expensive option on Veneto's pizza menu. It's your basic mozzarella cheese and tomato sauce, but you have the ability to add a number of toppings to it. I, however, decided to be a little more adventurous.

This is easy at Veneto - their pizza options are very unique and tempting. I chose the Pollo pizza, and for $12.50, I got a lot of pizza for my buck. Chicken, tomatoes, artichoke hearts and fresh mozzarella were loaded on a delicious crust.

The most unique part of the pizza though was that it didn't have tomato sauce. Instead, between the toppings and the crust was basil-infused oil, which added a tasty, unique twist to this pizza. All of these ingredients baked on a wood fire grill made for one of the best pizzas I've ever had.

The best part of it was that pizza was so loaded with toppings I had to be careful they didn't slide right off when I picked up each slice to eat it. Where else do you get that?

However, while I very much enjoyed my pizza, I think next time I go I will have to go with one of the pasta options Veneto offers. The dishes described on the menu were definitely tempting enough to go back another time.

And with its convenient location on East Ave, it's a great place to stop for lunch or dinner. If you don't have time to sit down in the restaurant, don't worry. Veneto also offers take out!
