Read the fine print.
This could save you loads of money and time. For example, Eurail passes only work on certain (slow and inconvenient) trains.
Lastly, (but most important) try to avoid overnight trains.
Have you seen Euro Trip? Yeah. "Mi Scusi."
On a positive note, my favorite moment of the trip was a direct result of our misfortune.
Due to a lack of communication, half of us missed the last inexpensive ferry from Naples to the island of Capri. Instead, we decided to walk up and down the shore.
We eventually stumbled upon a man who rented out row boats. He charged the five of us five euro each to take one out on the Mediterranean for an hour.
Mind you, he made the negotiations in his underwear (unbeknownst to us he was preparing to scuba dive for mussels), but the water was absolutely beautiful.
I even attempted to row, and didn't go in circles, even though I didn't really go anywhere at all.
We also did all of the touristy things in Rome, Venice, Florence, Piza, Pompeii, Palermo, and Naples and the Vatican City. Seeing things like the coliseum and the Leaning Tower of Pisa, drinking the amazing wine and eating pizza, pasta and gelato every day certainly made our troubles worth it.
I wouldn't trade back my experience. As my friend Robert said to me tonight, "if we could get through those 10 days in Italy, we can get through anything."
It's surprising how much like Chuck Norris you feel when you can tell stories of how you shooed away a creepy homeless man in the Naples train station.

Great read from a great writer! You really make that awesome trip come alive. I just had to support the "drinking the amazing wine and eating pizza, pasta and gelato every day" part. (Continued…)
