"There's so much small stuff with football. People don't see behind the scenes. We aren't just showing up, we're doing breakdowns, player evaluations. It was an eye opener," Kramer said.
Along with the long hours, the biggest challenge for both was to transform themselves from players to coaches, which meant changing relationships with the people who used to be their teammates.
"Being young and having friendships with players she [Davis] is now trying to coach is a big step and a difficult one," Jill McCabe, head coach of the women's soccer team, said. "Over time the separation will be easier as long as the young coach echoes the coaching responsibilities and does not develop new friendships but coach /player relationships."
One would think it could be a difficult transition for the players, but it can actually be a huge asset.
"He [Kramer] knew us as people. He was able to make that bond so much easier," senior quarterback Tommy Hammel said. "We knew when we had to work and when we didn't have to work. With any other coach you don't get that. We were so close with him already and we did what he wanted us to do. It was a huge plus."
Vosburgh thinks that Kramer has been a nice addition to the coaching staff and that the staff associate program is great for Fisher's athletic program.
"Its nice to have someone who is familiar with the team and the program, you don't get that when you bring in an outside person," Vosburgh said. "We like to take care of our own. He got his bachelor's degree from Fisher and now he's getting his Masters. I think that's a good thing."
