A winning equation

The New York Yankees unveiled a brand new ballpark on April 16. The Cleveland Indians moved in…on April 16. The Tribe, in the first three games since the ballpark's opening, smashed nine home runs and scored 38 runs. The Bronx Bombers hit eight homers in those first three games as well.

Now, if it weren't for some questionable pitching by $161 million dollar signing CC Sabathia, and Yankee "stud" Chien-Ming Wang (who has an ERA of 34.50, which is terrible) the Yanks could have competed in the two losses. What is the solution for the Yankees? Take advantage of what the new ballpark and the old Yankee Stadium have in common. The dimensions.

Yankee Stadium was originally created with a short "porch" in right field, to take advantage of Babe Ruth's powerful left handed swing. Ever since then, Yankee hitters who are left-handed have done exceptionally well in Yankee Stadium. Yankee greats such as Lou Gehrig, Reggie Jackson, Roger Maris and Mickey Mantle, just to name a few.

It is a simple equation for the New York Yankees, which I am almost positive would never happen. But, ask anyone who knows my love for baseball, I dream big and quite ridiculously at most points. The equation itself looks like this:

NYY = ($ + short right field) x (Media Frenzy+New Yankee Stadium) = X

Who is that X factor? Who will play for a minimum amount of money, take advantage of the short right field, take the media away from almost any other star on the team and look pretty decent in pinstripes? He is out there.

The New York Yankees should try to sign Barry Bonds.

Consider the different types of elevations that Bonds alone could cause with the Yankees. We can first start where the New York Yankees usually start, the money aspect of things. The Yankees, although not admittedly, are feeling it in their wallets following this offseason. They have signed two pitchers (Sabathia and AJ Burnett), gold glover Mark Texiera and lighthearted and emotional utility player Nick Swisher. Those signings were expensive. Bonds, believe it or not, would not be.
