In the afternoon, I had lunch with my best friend at one of our favorite restaurants, Dinosaur BBQ. After an amazing lunch, I headed out on the street to see what I could find.
I didn't walk very far until I found the Genesee River Trail. You can get on the trail just a couple hundred feet from the Dinosaur's entrance on Court Street.
The entire trail is a 13 mile-long path way along the Genesee River. It travels through 11 parks (including the zoo), a sports arena and the convention center.
The Genessee River Trail is a great place to spend a sunny Rochester afternoon. There are tons of benches along the water where you can sit and people watch.
Less than a quarter of a mile from the Court Street entrance to the trail is Corn Hill Landing. Corn Hill Landing is a young development in the city that is home to two restaurants, a fitness center, an eyewear store and an ice cream parlour to name just a few.
The Landing is a great place to grab lunch or dinner at either of the two restaurants. The first restaurant is Virtu .
Virtu is a trendy new restaurant that opened in January 2007. Virtu serves everything from steak to seafood and pasta. Virtu is built on multiple levels and even has a patio on the water where you can have lunch or dinner with someone special.
The second restaurant is a 3-story Thai restaurant named Siam. Siam opened in Fall 2006 and serves traditional Thai cuisine, as well as some twists on classic Thai dishes. If you are into Thai food, or just feeling adventurous, Siam is a stop you should make.
The final necessary stop you should make is at Corn Hill Creamery. In addition to a large menu of homemade ice cream, they also serve sundaes and milkshakes. If you're not in the mood for ice cream, get a cup of coffee or a cappuccino as they have a full cafe as well. They make ice cream cakes too.
Their ice cream has won awards. At the 2007 National Ice Cream Retailers Association Convention, they won Best Tropical or Ethnic Fruit Flavor for their Coconut Almond Crunch, a red ribbon for their vanilla ice cream recipe and a white ribbon for their strawberry recipe.
On a colder afternoon, you can sit inside and enjoy their free wireless Internet access. However, on a warmer day take your ice cream outside and walk with a friend along the river.
The Genesee River Trail and Corn Hill landing were the perfect spots for me to get lost in for my final installment of Lost in Rochester for the year.
Goodbye until September, and remember you never know what you'll find when you let yourself get lost.
