Relay for Life is a 12-hour event on the Fisher campus.

The mission is to raise money for the American Cancer Society. This year's Relay for Life is April 5 and 6 from 7 p.m. Saturday to 7 a.m. Sunday. This year the goal is to raise $75,000 for the American Cancer Society.

This event has been held for six years, and it's been great according to Michelle Miller, Chair and President of Relay for Life and Colleges Against Cancer.

"We are actually collaborating with Nazareth College." Miller said, "It's been great because we get students from Nazareth, and we work nicely together and it's awesome."

Miller stated that at the event there will be lots of activities, games, bands and DJ's.

"We have three ceremonies and lots of food," she said.

According to Miller, the first ceremony is a survivor ceremony, where survivors are honored and welcomed.

"We are actually looking for survivors, so if there are any survivors that anyone knows of, we welcome them all. Any Fisher or Nazareth survivors that we can get are welcome."

The second ceremony, Miller stated, is the luminary ceremony and that is the ceremony to remember individuals who have passed away from cancer. At that ceremony a speaker talks about someone who has lost somebody to cancer.

"It's a very emotional time," she said. "It's very silent in remembering those who have died. Then we follow up with getting back into the swing of things with music with the DJ playing peppy music."

The last ceremony is the fight-back ceremony. This ceremony encourages everyone to fight back against cancer and encourages everyone to sign pledges and just get excited about fighting cancer.

"We also share our total at the end of the ceremony which is very exciting," Miller said. "I hope to inspire everybody to raise money for the American Cancer Society. When people sign up for Relay they will get their own web- site where they can raise money for their team. T-shirts are ten dollars. We have been selling them all year and we have had a great success."
